Construction workers found a centuries-old original brick pipe water system when they digging out a new development in downtown L.A.

The pipe was hidden underneath the former Little Joe’s restaurant until the start of the $ 100 million Blossom Plaza project.

The discovered pipe was 73 feet long and has a four feet diameter, which was part od a 90-mile network. It was once used to carry water from the Los Angeles River to the young city, according to Los Angeles Times.

The system was built in 1781, known as Mother Ditch or Zanja Madre. It was shut down in 1877.
