Two men were reportedly crucified in the city of Raqqa on Tuesday, their bodies put on display for everyone to see by a jihadist group

According to The Daily Beast, a "jihadist group so radical they were kicked out of al Qaeda has hit a new and shocking low: It's allegedly crucifying its enemies."

The Daily Beast also reports that Syria has been attacked by barrel bombs and sarin gas, but the revival of public crucifixions shows how much power the Syrian Islamist faction has. And the situation in Syria is spiraling further out of control.

A student at Oxford University reported and posted a photo of the crucified man four minutes before a tweet from the Islamist group was sent out. The group has been identified as the Islamic State in Iraq and the ash-Sham (ISIS). According to The Daily Beast, a photo was tweeted with the caption: "We just executed seven spies trying to plant bombs on cars of ikhwa. Massive turnout."

The man in the photo hangs from a wooden cross, blind-folded.

It is still unclear who these men were and whether they were affiliated with the jihadist group. Moreover, there were comments underneath the photo that made fun of the lifeless bodies.

Raqqa was the first province that the Assad regime lost to the rebels in 2013. According to The Daily Beast, these were not the first crucifixions by the Islamist group. Last month, an alleged thief was executed.
