For $1,500 and one day only, you could have become the owner of Google Glass. In an unprecedented move, on Tuesday, the American public was given the opportunity to purchase Google's futuristic specs. The white "Cotton" version of the glasses sold out within just a few hours and the remainder of the stock was sold by Wednesday morning, CNET confirmed. This was the epitome of a one-day sale. Up until Tuesday, the only way to buy a pair of the highly sought-after Google Glass was to be on an elite list of invitees.

"That's all folks. We're out of spots in the Explorer Program for now, but may have more to share soon," Google stated on its Glass sign-up page.

Google Glass has proved to be a useful tool for doctors, first responders, athletes, etc. Time magazine named Google on the best inventions of 2012, accruing to CBS News.

Google Glass works similar to a smartphone. Allowing people to search the web and use applications. Google Glass responds to voice commands, and even enables users to easily and discreetly take photos and videos, which has led many to criticize the glasses on the grounds that they violate safety and privacy concerns, NBC News explained. Google Glass has also been attacked as a driving distrcation and a target for thieves.

Google Glass has spurred competition among glass companies to create the sleekest and most inexpensive version of these tech-savvy gadgets, CNN reports.

These hands-free Internet devices prove that Google is at the forefront of technological advancements. From glasses to watches and more, it is uncertain how computers will be made available to us in the future. One thing that is sure: Google Glass is just the tip of the iceberg. In a world brimming with rapid advancements in technology, Google is ready and willing to adapt. Still the question remains: are we, as a society, prepared to follow suit?
