Golf Digest Says Women Golfers Are Good At Sports But Better At Being Naked

Fair warning: I'm going to rant.

Paulina Gretzky, the beautiful -- really beautiful -- wow, she's hot -- daughter of Wayne Gretzky, hockey legend, posed for the cover of Golf Digest.

And people aren’t so happy.

The main source of their discontent is that Gretzky, while a golfer, is not exactly a professional golfer, as reported by E!.

In fact, she might not even qualify as a good golfer.

Gretzky is engaged to PGA star Dustin Johnson, which is how she got bitten by the golfing bug.

So why are people so mad? She does golf.

Well, Gretzky tried out a few passions first, like modeling, then singing, and then a teensy bit of acting in “Grown Ups 2.”

Shockingly, she was the “bikini girl Daisy.”

Female pro golfers are angry because she isn’t a professional golfer, and want to know why she’s on the cover when better golfers, like Stacy Lewis, a two-time major winner, have never been on the cover.

“It’s frustrating for female golfers,” Lewis told the New York Post. "We don’t get respect for being the golfers that we are. Obviously, Golf Digest is trying to sell magazines. But at the same time you’d like to see a little respect for the women’s game.”

Pro Juli Inkster expressed her annoyance as well.

“It’s frustrating because it’s Golf Digest; it’s not Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue,” Inkster said.

As for me, I actually worked at a pro shop for years. I golfed, albeit terribly, but I did it.

I remember watching opens, and thinking that the female golfers are pretty covered up in this sport.

I even remember shopping for polos and thinking, “Oh, god, I have to wear that? It’s too constricting.”

Now, I have no problem with Gretzky looking as good as she does.

Hey, if you can wear that and look that good, go for it. My issue is that if you look at other Golf Digest covers with men, none of them are shirtless, or in provocative poses.

Why not? Sex sells, and it gets people talking, obviously. Don't you think women like looking at hot guys?

Gretzky’s fiance, Johnson, a pretty good looking guy, and at least has potential.

Why not stick him on the cover shirtless, teeing off from a grassy knoll with golf-ball booby tassles?

I mean, Golf Digest even put Michael Phelps -- yes, the Olympic Gold medalist for swimming who is basically shirtless for a living - on the cover wearing a shirt.

Now, a big reason for not putting male golfers shirtless on the cover may be, to be frank, that they don’t look so fit.

But that stereotype of the beer-bellied golfer is fading. Look at Adam Scott, Luke Donald, and even Rickie Fowler - if that whole neon orange britches look is your thing.

Golf Digest itself called them "hot" already in this slideshow.

So why are women the only ones skimping on their goofy polos?

I’ll concede that Golf Digest doesn’t regularly feature women without shirts.

But there are far more magazine covers where a female golfer’s long, shiny legs are the focus as opposed to their form while swinging.

When a man is on the cover, his athleticism is highlighted -- not his biceps.

Like I mentioned, Gretzky looks crazy awesome.

And I admit, if I were in that kind of shape, I’d probably exclusively wear bikinis too.

But maybe Golf Digest can reserve those pictures for its Instagram account when it's up late and drunk-posting.

Just for hanging in there, I’ll show you a photo of Gretzky with Drake.

Hey -- maybe she’ll try rapping now?
