Former Bell City Council Members, George Coal, Oscar Hernandez, Teresa Jacobo, Victor Bello and George Mirabal, accepted a plea Wednesday for misappropriating public funds to get paid a higher salary.

Sentencing is set for July 14th with each of the members facing four years in prison. Had the members refused to take the offer they would have faced twice the amount of time.

The group is also expected to pay almost one million dollars in restitution. The least they can do according to current Bell city councilwoman Violeta Alverez.

"We want full restitution," Alvarez told KPCC, "They have to spend some time in jail so other cities can learn from that."

The group of ex city council members are also expected to pay close to one million dollars in restitution.

Former Bell Mayor Oscar Hernandez apologized to the Bell community after he and the other city council members agreed to accept the plea deal for the city's corruption scandal.
