After nearly a year from announcing her plans to leave the world of daily television, Barbara Walters has made official arrangements to say goodbye.

A creator of ABC's "The View," Walters announced today that her last day co-hosting the show will be May 16. ABC will air a two-hour special highlighting her life and career, according to ABC News.

Walters won't be completely separated from the show, though. She plans to continue to executive product "The View" and will be a lifelong ABC News.

Joining the network in 1979, Walters became the first female anchor on an evening news program. Later she became a co-host for "20/20,"  and launched "The View" in 1997.
