#WORLDSMOSTCONTROVERSIALCOVER: Kim And Kanye On The Cover Of Vogue Magazine

On March 21st, Twitter blew up into a frenzy.
The #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE, Kim and Kanye, finally made it to the front cover of Vogue for the April issue. Although there was immediate shock surrounding the newfound cover, it's not a surprise that thiswas bound to happen. Kanye had allegedly been pursuing fashion mogul and editor-in-chief Anna Wintour for months trying to get his soon-to-be-wife on the cover. So what happened? Did Anna give in?
In the letter from the editor, she writes, "Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it," CBS News reports.
Kim and Kanye defining culture? We don't know if everyone necessarily agrees with that (sorry Anna).
One of the first people to voice their opinion about the cover was TV actress and former Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar. She took to her Twitter to express her dissatisfactions by saying, "Well...I guess I'm canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???"
Curious to find out what others thought about this issue, we opened up discussion to students on the USC campus to see if Kim and Kanye really did "define the culture". Bobo Matjila a sophomore studying business, completely disagreed with Ms. Wintour's defense--for Kim anyway. "I feel like once you make it on the cover of Vogue, it's a huge stepping stone in your career and I don't think Kim has earned that prestige given that she's done nothing for the fashion industry, never mind society. If it were just Kanye on his own, it would have been more acceptable."
President of the Fashion Industry Association, Vi Nguyen, had less of a negative reaction to the issue stating, "In my opinion, it's an alright cover, it sells because it's Kim and Kanye. They are what's hot right now."
Some took a humourous approach to the whole controversy. Seth Rogan and James Franco, who previously made a spoof of Kim and Kanye's music video "Bound 2," saw fit to also parody the Vogue cover by photoshopping their faces over the couple.
It seems that while everyone has a stance on this controversial cover, the editor-in-chief has spoken and the issue will be in a newsstand near you, regardless of anyone's opinion.
