Unconventional Drone Uses

USA Today reports that drones are increasingly being used as vehicles to smuggle drugs into prisons.

The Victoria Police released a statement Monday, which outlined how a man and a woman were discovered in a car on Sunday with "what was believed to be a drone with four engines and a small quantity of drugs."

The 28 year-old man was later arrested Sunday afternoon after the drone was caught hovering over the vicinity of a prison in Ravenhall. The charges against him include possession and attempting to commit an indictable offense. The suspect is due to appear in court next week.

Similar offenses have also occurred in Brazil, Russia, and even the state of Georgia. However, drug smuggling seems to only be one of the many unconventional uses of drones.

Besides their obvious association to the military, here are some of the most unique ways, according to Top 5, in which aerial drones are now being used for civilian purposes:

1) Food Delivery
Drones are ushering a new era of epedient food delivery service. UK Dominos has already tested what they have coined "Domicopter," an unmanned aircraft that carries and deliver pizzas to their respective locations. Yet, this new airborne method raises an important question: Should you tip the pizza delivery drone?

2) Stalking
Drones bring a new meaning to the term "creeper." There is no longer any need to obsessively check your ex's Facebook profile. Indeed, drones provide a far more efficient method of spying on your ex to see whether or not they have moved on. Careful, though, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

3) Pranks
Now, you can ding dong ditch without even having to get up off the couch. Thanks to drones, you can cause a ruckus easier than ever.  That being said, why not branch out to some of the other classical pranks and airlift  a bag of flaming poo or a dead fish onto your frenemies' door steps?

4) Taking Pictures/Videos
Drones allow for the capture of images/video that would, other wise be impossible. This is revolutionizing everything from journalism to hurricane watching. So, next time you want some epic images/footage, use the flying tripod that is a drone!
