Next time you eat a colorful salad for lunch, thank California.

Moral has been low for famers after a lingering warm winter and though many crops suffered, California still comes out on top of the nation for farming produce. California rules the country when it comes to produce. 

California Department of Food and Agriculture showed in its latest report that the state produces nearly half of all fruits, nuts and vegetables grown in the entire United States. Not to mention, California has 66 food crops in which it dominates including almonds, artichokes, dates, figs, raisins, kiwifruit among many others. 

The golden state earned approximately $45 billion in 2012, the biggest contributors were milk, grapes, almonds, strawberries and walnuts.
