Spring break is the time to go crazy. Whether you're basking in the sun on the beaches of Cabo or hiking the foothills of Haute-Garonne, this mid-March slice of heaven is an oasis from a desert of fun. You've read about the best bikinis for your body type, but what about for who you are on the inside? We'll help you choose the bikini that is the best fit for you.

Bare it all- an open book

You've been toning up for spring break, so strut what you've got. Those yoga classes weren't for nothing. If you are into baring it all, channel your inner Miley in a skin-tone bikini. We like this Tori Praver Toledo bikini, which features macrame details and a figure-flattering high waist. Choose the Moeva 'Celia' Twist bikini if you're looking to get noticed, or a simple triangle string-style set (available on Yoox).

Don't forget to bronze your body to match your suit. Too Faced Sun Bunny bronzer is perfect for cheek contouring. Victoria's Secret Pink Sun Kissed Luminous Body Bronzer gives an all-over glow. If you like to keep the bronze to smaller areas, try Michael Kors Leg Shine or Nars by Pierre Hardy Easy Walking limited-edition Rose Gold & Camel polishes.

Traditional with a sense of adventure

From a heyday in the 1950's to a resurgence in 2010, high-waisted bikinis have enjoyed a multitude of exposure. This summer, expect to see a more modern update on the classic style, featuring cutouts. This novel take keeps the trend full-coverage without being stuffy, making its wearer look more Lana Del Rey than a vintage pic of grandma.

Our options (from top left to bottom right) are:

  • Mara Hoffman Rays Lattice High-Waisted Bikini Bottom ($138, Saks Fifth Avenue)
  • Unif Gidget Suit ($142, Nasty Gal
  • Motel Poolside Cocktails Two Piece ($60, ModCloth)
  • Victoria's Secret Strappy Bottom with Strappy Long Line Top ($18.50 and $42.50, respectively
  • Black Triangle Cutout Bandeau Bikini ($68, Topshop)

Off kilter

Though many say that beauty comes from symmetry, the fashion world would have to disagree. Crooked styles have been creeping off of the runways and onto the hems of everyday people. The chic, daring look evokes images of big city skyscrapers in a futuristic metropolis. If you are spending your spring break in a more urban setting, try one of our asymmetric picks.

Thin straps meet on the right shoulder of a black Cushnie et Ochs set (top layered under denim button-up, full set visible on center modal). For those who prefer foreign designers, there is the Wikus bikini. Made by Oye, a designer from Istanbul, the Wikus features a one-shoulder design with parallel slits on the bust and hip.

Both the Mouille Grecian Asymmetric Bikini Top (to be paired with a matching asymmetric, high-waisted bottom) and the 3D Flower One Shoulder Bikini Top (top, center) can be purchased on ASOS.

Wanderlust, with an eye on the ocean

What better place is there to spend your spring break than at the local yacht club? Dressed in seersucker and stripes, you will be welcomed with open arms. American Eagle makes striped halters complete with pushup padding. Try the Bridget ruffle top if you prefer tighter stripes, or try the Emma for a girly bow. If you are hoping for a little more coverage, try the Jcrew seersucker banded underwire tankini.

Accessories are important if you are going to be spending time out at sea. Classic boat shoes look perfectly preppy against the wooden deck. A Marc by Marc Jacobs straw Ragosa tote bag is spacious enough to hold a Ralph Lauren Home Striped Terry Beach Towel

Personal flair

Each bikini season, bodegas are filled with magazines advertising huge spreads instructing you how to find a bikini that fits you perfectly. Well what is a more perfect fit than something that is  customized to you? Enter the monogram.

Marley Lilly makes a simple black triangle top that you can custome order to include your monogram. RahRah designs has an entire selection of monogrammed bikinis (white bandeau with navy print pictured here). Cover up with a monogrammed windbreaker and clink custom champagne flutes as the sun begins to set.

Jcrew has a monogram option for most of its merchandise. If you prefer a broader selection, you can also take your swimwear to any seamstress to embellish it with your signature. Because whether you stay at home or run off to a foreign land, this is your spring break, and it should fit to you.
