Russia Votes To Send Troops To Ukraine

Russia's Parliament voted unanimously Saturday to approve President Vladimir Putin's request to send troops to Ukraine.

This comes after increasing tensions in the pro-Russia Crimea peninsula, where protesters have hoisted pro-Moscow flags on government buildings in some eastern cities.

It also comes days after President Obama and other western leaders' warnings to Russia that it not intervene in Ukraine, a country of 46 million people.

Putin cited the need to protect Russian citizens in his request to the upper house, the same reason he gave for invading Georgia in 2008, according to Reuters.
