Obamacare Enrollment Reaches 5 Million

Two weeks before the March 31 deadline to obtain coverage, more than 5 million people have signed up for Obamacare health insurance plan. The number is just 1 million shy of what the Obama administration projected by the end of the open enrollment period. 

Under the Affordable Care Act, by March 31, most Americans will obtain some form of health coverage or face a tax penalty.

“As this historic open enrollment period enters its final weeks, millions of Americans are finding quality, affordable coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act,” Medicare chief Marilyn Tavenner, whose agency is overseeing the marketplaces, wrote Monday.
