Nick Cannon might be a little too committed to promoting his new album “White People Party Music.”

Cannon debuted his new “look” on his Instagram account, saying, “It's official... I'm White!!! #WHITEPEOPLEPARTYMUSIC #Wppm in stores April 1st!!!!!!Dude Go Get It!!!Join The Party!!!! #GoodCredit #DogKissing #BeerPong #FarmersMarkets #FistPumping #CreamCheeseEating #RacialDraft "Bro I got drafted!!" The photo features the rapper wearing whiteface along with a blonde wig, a beanie hat, and a plaid shirt to complete the style.

Aside from the original photo, Cannon has also posted videos where he introduces his white alter ego “Connor Smallnut.” His new persona is now the profile photo of his Instagram and Twitter accounts to further promote his album.

Cannon’s decision to wear whiteface has sparked a lot of debate on the Internet. People have tweeted at the rapper and commented on his posts, calling him “racist” and “ignorant.” Many have also referenced the controversy around actress Julianne Hough’s blackface Halloween costume, claiming that Cannon is receiving less criticism.  Others found his album promotion to be hilarious and defended it.

Cannon has responded to the controversy on Twitter by encouraging people who defend him and reminding everyone to “relax and have fun.” His Twitter bio also states, “If you take anything I say on Twitter seriously, you have too much time on your hands.” It appears that Cannon not only thinks that his promotion choice was ok, but he also wants to keep the controversy at a minimum in order to boost album sales.

“White People Party Music” comes out on April 1st. It will be interesting to see how “Connor Smallnut” will affect its success.
