Getty Received $6.2 Billion Endowment During 2013
The J. Paul Getty Trust received endowment up to $6.2 billion in total during 2013, which was the first time for the institution to approach its peak of $6.4 billion in mid-2007 after the Great Recession.
The Getty, unlike other museums relying almost entirely on donations, lives mostly off its investments. The Getty’s financial statement shows that the Getty has had a 13.7 percent return on its investments during the 2013-13 fiscal year, while other institutions, nationwide, averaged an 11.7 percent.
