An openly gay former teacher at a Glendora Catholic school sued a past employer in a Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday after claiming he was unjustly fired for marrying his partner, according to City News Service.

Kenneth Bencomo, previously an English Teacher at St. Lucy’s Priory High School, alleges the school is in violation of the state Labor Code and public policy concerning wrongful termination and breach of contract.

Bencomo and his partner Christopher Persky married in July of 2013, soon after the ban on same-sex marriage was lifted in California. He was fired within two weeks of his marriage.

A graduate of a Catholic high school himself, Bencomo taught at St. Lucy's Priory for over 15 years. He' seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
