Crimea To Become Part Of Russia With Treaty

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty on Tuesday officially annexing Crimea. The treaty must be ratified by Russia’s Constitutional Court and the houses of parliament, but is expected to be completed by the end of the week. Kremlin officials said that it considered to the treaty to be in force, even before ratification.

In a speech following the signing of the treaty, Putin said that Crimea was an integral part of Russia, and that he was restoring order and history by adding Crimea to the Russian map. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, meeting with European leaders in Poland, called the move “flawed logic,” and said that further U.S. and European sanctions were imminent.
