Copenhagen Zoo Kills Off Four Healthy Lions
The Danish Copenhagen Zoo, which faced major backlash after euthanizing a healthy giraffe in front of zoo-goers last month, is at it again.
Copenhagen Zoo put down four lions in what they’re calling a “generational shift,” the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
A new male lion is coming in, so two old lions had to be put down. Two cubs had to be euthanized because they wouldn’t be able to fend for themselves.
Last month, zookeepers killed Marius, a two-year-old giraffe, to prevent inbreeding.

In an odd twist, the zookeepers shot Marius in the head and dissected him before feeding his parts to lions as a crowd watched on Feb. 9.
"Marius hasn't made us the least bit afraid, because what we are doing is the most correct thing to do," the zoo's chief, told a Danish news agency, according to USA Today.
The lions won't be publicly dissected this time, The Telegraph reported.
