Another 680 On Trial In Egypt

An Egyptian court began another mass trial on Tuesday, this time with over 680 defendants. The news comes just one day after 529 supporters of ousted president Morsi were sentenced to death.

Both trials have been denounced by human rights groups. Egyptian defense attorneys boycotted Tuesday’s session, which has been adjourned until April 28, 2014. Many legal experts have said that the death sentences will likely be overturned. The U.S. State Department called the proceedings “shocking.” Only about one tenth of the accused were present in court for the sentencing.
