Previously an exotic fruit that only those who ventured into Whole Foods could acquire, avocados are now a mainstream produce option in almost every supermarket.

Though a bit on the pricier side for the average struggling college student or provider for a family of four, avocados are certainly worth the splurge.

Touted for its healthy fats, avocados are also rich in fiber, folate, potassium, and vitamin C, K and B6.

Another fun fact: avocados are actually considered a part of the berry family.

Not only are avocados one of the world’s most accessible superfoods, they are extremely versatile and add beautiful flavor and texture to any recipe. Though the simple avocado recipes certainly have their charm (there's nothing quite like a piece of avocado toast with a dash of spice), expanding your avocado repertoire could liven up an already health-filled diet, or rekindle your romance with health foods.

Generally a salad topper or eaten during football games in the form of guacamole, avocados have many other more interesting uses. Those attempting to make their desserts healthier can replace eggs and butter with the creamy flesh of avocado (another protip: replace white sugar with banana). Trying to make something scrumptious, rather than nutritious (not that those cannot both be a part of the same dish)? Cube up some avocado and add it to pastas, omelettes and whatever else strikes your fancy.

Curious about more? Here are nine new and interesting ways to incorporate some avocado into your daily routine.

1. Chocolate Banana Avocado Milkshake (dairy free)

Adding avocado gives this milkshake its creamy texture, sans milk. Those avoiding dairy products, rejoice!

2. Stovetop Avocado Mac & Cheese

Nothing is quite like a creamy bowl of macaroni and cheese. Add avocado for a sophisticated and even creamier touch.

3. Avocado Green Tea Popsicles

Make a sweet and refreshing treat by combining the antioxidant-rich green tea flavors with the perfect binding texture of avocado.

4. Bacon & Egg Stuffed Avocado

It has bacon. 'Nuff said.

5. Avocado Fries

Though this could never be considered healthy (don't kid yourself, it's still fried), it is certainly a healthier alternative to the classic white potato fry.

6. Avocado Key Lime Pie

This version of key lime pie is completely raw and completely healthy (not to mention super tasty).

7. Creamy Avocado Spaghetti Sauce

Alfredo and marinara might be the spaghetti superstars, but mix it up by making a new kind of sauce with an avocado base.

8. Fudgy Cocoa Avocado Brownies

This recipe uses avocado as an added ingredient instead of a substitute for other classic brownie components (i.e. eggs), but that does not discredit this new twist on a classic dessert. It also has a bit of coffee extract, giving it yet another unique spin.

9. Cream Cheese Avocado Cookies

Tiny bite-sized cookies get big flavor with cream cheese and - of course - avocado.
