Utah Defends Same-Sex Marriage Ban

In December, a federal judge ruled Utah's ban as unconstitutional, leading to about 1,300 same-sex marriages in the state. However, the state government was granted a stay of that ruling and the case is now in appeals court.
Attorneys of the state argued that heterosexual marriages are the best model for children.
"The model is not intended to demean other family structures, anymore than giving and 'A' to some students demeans others," attorneys wrote. The State and its people believe that the man-woman model is the best for children.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has been in support of same-sex marriages, arguing against the ban.
Utah's case has gone through a number of courts and legal decisions following the federal judge's ruling that the ban was unconstitutional.
