U.S. speed skaters at the Sochi Olympics now have permission from the International Olympic Committee to switch out of their Under Armour suits due to complaints of perceived design flaws.

This comes after several athletes complained that the 'Mach 39' suit created excess drag resulting in slower finishing times.

The Wire reports that the problem lies in the suit's specially designed vents meant to let air escape, but instead, are letting air in.

U.S. Speedskating president Mike Plant issued a statement on Friday saying:

"For the remainder of the Winter Olympic Games, Team USA speedskaters will be wearing the previously-approved Under Armour skin suits used during recent World Cup competition."

Through the first six speedskating events in Sochi, the best result for an American speedskater has been seventh according to NBC Sports.

According to the Wall Street Journal, questions about the suit surfaced after Shani Davis, considered a top medal competitor, finished eighth in the 1,000 meter race, though he took gold in the same event at the 2006 and 2010 games.

This year, Davis took the top spot in the 1,000 meters in three of four World Cup competitions wearing the previous suit.

Davis, along with the rest of U.S. Speedskating team, have steered clear of officially blaming Under Armour.

"U.S. Speedskating is proud of its long-term, successful partnership with Under Armour, and we all look forward to the upcoming races," Plant said in a statement.
