There are a series of fabulous events that prelude the Annual Academy Awards ceremony ever year. In the weeks leading up to the 2014 Oscars, smaller award ceremonies and concerts take place to get fans pumped up for the main show.

The 2014 series commenced with the Science and Technical Awards on Feb 15. This ceremony honors the brilliant minds that create the advanced technology behind special effects seen in films such as "Avatar" and "Chronicle."

The developers of widely used special effect tools such as the Flying-Cam and the Pneumatic Car Flipper, were all in attendance.

These outstanding men and women are rarely seen at events because they often stick behind the scenes. Luckily, some of their wardrobe choices suggested that they should get out on the red carpet more often. For others, it was easy to see why they stay under wraps.

Here are the top 7 best and worst dressed of the 2014 Oscar Sci-Tech Awards:

1 and 2: Hosts Kristen Bell and Michael B. Jordan stole the show. Bell looked flawless in a black cutout dress, while Jordan donned a sleek brown suit.

These two may have an unfair advantage because they have frequented red carpets in the past, but these two turned on the charm and rocked the red carpet.

Bell and Jordan were definitely the best dressed of the night.

3 and 4: Recipient Areito Echevarria and his date looke great together. Areito wore a perfectly tailored suit that made him look clean and crisp. His date kept it classy in a floor length, shimmery gold gown.

The color of the dress accented her skin tone and made her look elegant without blending in.

5. Recipient Greg Humphreys attempted to make a statement with a baby blue bow tie, but the pale tie looked very childish.

This pop of color was surprisingly not favorable.

6. Recipient Robert Lanciault's date almost made it to the best dressed list in this petite black dress. The boxy cut of the dress had a potential to be very flattering, but her mundane accessories played down the best features of the dress.

The shoes and clutch were overly simply and made it look as if she was going in for a day at the office.

7. Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs wore a long silver gown that looked extremely uncomfortable. The material of the dress appeared very heavy and the color of the piece was an unflattering and stark contrast to her skin tone.
