Indian Singer Anoop Jalota Performs In Los Angeles

Indian singer Anoop Jalota performed in the Hoover Middle School Auditorium on February 2, 2014. Organizers of Indian concerts often use the school's space because it is convenient for the Indian American community living around Artesia.

Jalota is well known in India and among the Indian diaspora worldwide for his Hindu devotional music. He is known for "bhajan" and "ghazal" musical styles.

He has produced over 200 albums which have earned him recognition from the government of India and the common title of "Bhajan Samraat," emperor of bhajans. Many of his songs include "call and response" sections where the audience joins him in singing. Event organizer Qusro Patel said events like this are important for "keeping the culture alive" outside of India. See the audio slideshow below.
