Stripes, whether they are nautical, vertical or horizontal, always come back into style in the spring and summer months. There is something about stripes that feel light, fun and playful, and Los Angeles-based fashion bloggers agree.

Los Angeles-based fashion blog Angel Food showcases stripes this week in an outfit that combines all of the hottest trends. Blogger Sophie Elkus wears a bright red Torn by Ronny Kobo striped skirt and matching long-sleeved cropped top. The stripes, an off-white color with a tinge of silver sparkle, shine against the bright red of the skirt and top. Elkus pairs the outfit with nude lace-up sandals and a black crossbody tote. While the cropped top is fitted, the skirt flows away from the body with a tighter, high waist band that creates a flattering look.

The universal print in the outfit separated into two pieces helps to create a very chic look.  The minimal midriff-bearing nature of the top is also on trend.

An added bonus to this almost-monochromatic outfit is that the top and bottom can be worn separately to create additional looks. We have all heard that horizontal stripes make you look wider, but when the stripes are thin and pinned against a bright color, they create a slimming effect.

Shea Marie, Los Angeles-based fashion blogger at Peace Love Shea, wears stripes this week as well. While her outfit is not as bold as Elkus' head-to-toe striped look, Shea is very much on trend in a black and white striped tank and black trousers.  The top, which has a high neckline, also features horizontal stripes that are slightly thicker, which help to create an eye-popping print.

The trousers, which have a skinny leg opening, also showcase a white stripe on its waistband. This minimal detail creates a major effect, tying the outfit together in a way that plain black trousers just can't do. The minimal yet eye-catching nature of the outfit leaves it open for bold and bright jewelry, which Shea does with gold bangles and a "Cool" necklace. It also allows for fun and printed accesories, such as the leopard print tote shown here.

Much like Elkus' look, this look has the ability to transition from day to night. There is a misconception that stripes are only for daytime and summer looks, but when accessorized correctly, they can be just as chic into the evening.

So, whether you wear them like Robin Thicke, or like these on-trend L.A. fashion bloggers, you will be right on the money with a striped look this season.
