Jimmy Fallon finished his first week as the new "Tonight Show" host on NBC and is in the second week of his hosting duties. Fallon replaced Jay Leno, who has already been replaced once before and brought back only to be replaced again by NBC. But this time, Leno was okay with being replaced because he retired.

Fallon's viewership during his first week was two times more than Letterman's. Fallon had over 8.5 million viewers in his first week. But the question is, will he be able to keep the viewers? I will say that is a definite yes. I think Fallon is here to stay.

I don't understand it, but "The Tonight Show" franchise has had so much drama since 2009. NBC has caused this drama themselves though. Leno was pushed out by NBC in 2009 for Conan O'Brien to come in and take over, but Leno wasn't ready to retire. O'Brien didn't have the ratings, so they brought Leno back into his regular spot and wanted O'Brien to keep "The Tonight Show." But, there was one catch: his show would air after Leno's did. O'Brien didn't like this idea at all and settled with NBC to pay him off out of his contract to leave NBC. This allowed Leno to come back and finish out his time at NBC until just recently when he retired and this time, it seemed for good. Leno is okay with retiring and told Matt Lauer in a joint interview with Fallon that it's time he passes the show onto someone else.

Meanwhile over at CBS, David Letterman has stayed in his spot at "The Tonight Show" the whole time, so Fallon is battling him to try to be on top. Bu,t this doesn't seem like it will be a problem, according to the amount of viewers Fallon acquired in just his first week. It also doesn't seem like an issue to Leno because he thinks Fallon is similar to the legendary "Tonight Show" host, Johnny Carson. In the interview with Lauer, Leno said, "When I watch him do you know, a duet with Justin Timberlake or something of that nature I go, 'Well, I can't do that. I mean, I write jokes.'"

I'm going to admit, I recorded the first week of "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon because I wanted to see how he would do and if he would be entertaining. I have always heard about Johnny Carson but have never watched any of his shows. I wanted to start being a part of "The Tonight Show" audience to experience it for myself. I had never really watched "The Tonight Show" before, except when my mom would watch David Letterman once in a while, but I never really enjoyed watching him. But, there was something about Jimmy Fallon that made me so intrigued to watch. I think it has to do partly with his age and how he appeals to a younger audience. His first night he did the "History of Hip Hop" spot with Will Smith and ended the week with "History of Rap" with Justin Timberlake. I now have every show set to record on my DVR because I actually really like him, becacuse he is just entertaining.

He not only appeals to the younger crowd, but he also appeals to the older crowds that have watched "The Tonight Show" for many years. In addition, he has a variety of different guests that appeal to both the older and younger generations. Guests in the first week included Will Smith, Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, First Lady Michelle Obama and U2. Besides his variety of guests, he also has many segments that are creative, and he is a genuinely funny guy. His whole first week, I thought he blew David Letterman out of the water. You don't see Letterman rapping with anyone on his show or getting out of his chair to have more fun segments on his talk show. This is the exact reason why I think Letterman will retire soon because Fallon will maintain this amount of viewers he started with in the first week. He is fresh, likable new blood on the show and I know I will keep watching as long as I have time.

Leno said his final goodbye this time, so we know he is definitely not coming back. I didn't agree with NBC when they kicked Leno out of his chair for O'Brien, but I don't know what went on behind the scenes. What I do know is that they made the right decision now by bringing on Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon told Leno in "The Today Show" interview, "I hope I make you proud." Just based off your first week Jimmy Fallon, I think you're already doing that.
