Just days before the Sochi Olympics in Russia, the founder and CEO of a Russian gay dating app called "Hunters" says his app was hacked and subject to homophobic attacks.

According to Business Insider, Hunters founder Dmitry T. -- who declined to provide his full name for safety reasons -- said hackers sent the following message to all Hunters users in Russia:

"Warning: You will be arrested and jailed for gay propaganda in Sochi according to Russian Federal Law #135 Sektion 6."

"This attack should be looked at as an attack on the worldwide gay community," Dmitry said.

As thousands prepare to descend upon the Russian town of Sochi for the Winter Olympic games, many members and supporters of the LGBT community have criticized the country's anti-gay laws.

Last June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting the advocacy of same-sex relationships to minors, banning anything that might be interpreted as gay propaganda -- effectively including parades, signs, and same-sex public affection.

As a result, many LGBT supporters have expressed fear of prejudice and arrest at the Olympics.

"In order to protect our users from future injustice, we have started moving our servers from Russia to Europe," Dmitry said.
