Artist CeeLo Green announced his permanent departure from NBC’s “The Voice” on today’s broadcast of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” After four years of coaching talented contestants in the singing competition, Green told Ellen, “I’m not coming back at all…I don’t want to wear out my welcome there.”

This isn’t the first time Green has left the singing competition. Green joined the show in 2011 as one of the original coaches, but took a break from coaching at the beginning of 2013. He returned to the show in September for season five, but is now giving up his chair again–this time for good.

“I have so many other things I wanna do,” Green told Ellen, “I haven’t released an album in four years; I’m almost done with an album…[I miss] the music.” Green also mentioned, “I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC…I have a television show development deal with them as well and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year, but yeah, I’m going to miss ‘The Voice’ too.”

In a statement released to TODAY, Paul Telegdy, NBC president of alternative and late-night programming, said, “CeeLo Green has been an instrumental part of the success of 'The Voice' and we deeply appreciate all his contributions. We’re looking forward to working with him on other upcoming projects that will tap into both his musical and entertainment expertise."

Where will we see CeeLo next? On top of having a new album in the makes, Green will be joining artist Lionel Richie on his upcoming tour. Richie, who was also a guest on Ellen, said “The good news is he’ll be with me on the road!”

While we’ll miss CeeLo as a coach, it will definitely be exciting to see his next steps in the music industry.
