The abortion rate in the U.S. is the lowest it's been since Roe v. Wade in 1973, when the Supreme Court confirmed the constitutionality of a woman's right to an abortion, according to a new study.

The data comes from a study conducted by a nonprofit sexual health organization. The report shows that current abortion rate, 16.9 abortions per every 1000 women, is well below the peak rate in 1981, which was 29.3/1000, and close to the 1973's rate, which was 16.3/1000.

The decline in abortion rates also comes at a time of similarly low birth rates. Rachel Jones, lead author of the study, maintained that the study found no evidence of government abortion restrictions causing the drop in abortion rates.
