The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Thursday that it has reached a deal with technology companies to allow for more information regarding personal data requests to be made public.

The agreement is considered to be a win for technology companies like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft, who were previously barred from disclosing the amount or scope of data requests received from a special federal surveillance court.

According to Reuters, technology companies were previously only allowed to disclose an "aggregate number" of all data requests, including everything from top-secret intelligence to run-of-the-mill subpoena and police activity.

Read more about the new surveillance rules at Reuters, Politico, and the Washington Post.
