Last month's data breach of Target Corp.'s payment servers was larger than initially thought, according to new information provided by the retailer on Friday.

Target announced on Friday that at least 70 million customers were affected by December's data breach, up from their original estimate of 40 million customers. In addition, the retailer confirmed that hackers had stolen not only debit and credit card numbers but also full names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.

The stolen card data was from a different data set from the personal information data set, according to Target, but the extent of the theft was still largely unknown.

According to reports, over 100 million customers could potentially be affected from the breach.

Target has promised to assist customers whose personal information has been compromised, including identity theft protection coverage.

That plan will be announced next week, according to a company spokesperson.
