After an altercation over texting in a movie theater, a man was shot and killed on Monday. Chad Oulson, a 43-year-old father, was texting his daughter's daycare to check on her when a fellow movie-goer got agitated over his cellphone use during the movie.

International Business Times reported that the shooting took place during the previews of the recently released movie, "Lone Survivor," at a theater in Wesley Chapel, Florida.

According to witnesses, the gunman, a 71-year-old former police officer, grew very agitated. Eventually the incident ended with a single, fatal gunshot, which hit Oulson's wife as she tried to shield him.

Oulson later died from his injury and his wife sustained a non-threatening wound to her hand.

"This was an isolated altercation between two guests that escalated unexpectedly. The safety, security and comfort of our guests and team members are always our top priorities, and we are truly heartbroken by this incident," Cobb Theatres said in a written statement.

CNN reported that Curtis Reeves, the alleged shooter, was detained following the shooting for second-degree homicide and is now being held without bond.
