The Super Bowl is coming up and that means buying your favorite team jersey, cashing out on snacks, and most importantly, anticipating the annual Super Bowl ads. But who knew that this would be the year where high fashion meets the field? Bloomingdale's, the NFL, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, (CFDA) have all joined together to display and reveal the 48 freshly designed football helmets in celebration for this year's Super Bowl XLVIII. When one thinks of Bloomingdale's, the first thing that doesn't come to mind is football. According to the Washington Square News, Steven Colb, the CEO of CFDA, told the publication that because this is the first time that the Super Bowl is taking place in New York, they are taking this opportunity to merge the fashion capitol of the world with this well watched sport. This makes perfect sense seeing as how the Super Bowl is more than just a game--it's pop culture and the fashion industry thrives off of what is social and trendy.

Each of the helmets will be auctioned off with a starting price of $248 and the proceeds will go to the NFL Foundation, an organization that is dedicated to aiding in the health and safety of youth athletes in football and other various sports. Here are some of the designers that transformed the drab helmets into fab headpieces:

Georgina Chapman, who represents Marchesa, a brand of high-end women's wear, designed her helmet jet black (see above) with defined paisley shapes and feathered embroidery that is similar to many of the brand's clothing. Keeping in my mind that this is more fashionable than functional for the field, this helmet screams luxe.

Betsey Johnson, known for her vibrant, loud, and charismatic creations, took extra liberties with her helmet by covering it with frilly mini pink roses. Not surprisingly, the helmet wouldn't look out of place if put on display for retail. We think that you can agree that this embodies Betsey's tastes.

Bloomingdale's accentuated their love for New York by mounting three Lady Liberties along with the iconic empire state building on their helmet. The retail chain  was founded by  Joseph and Lyman Bloomingdale in the late 1800s in the lower east side of New York, so it only seems appropriate that the brand not only display some hometown pride, topping it off with a sparkly "b" on the side.

This helmet is our favorite by far (see right). Designed by Nicole Miller, she stayed true to her brand by incorporating  strong warm colors and flower prints. The juxtaposition of the tough black and white stripes against the soft yellowed roses is an accurate representative of Miller's signature designs that make her well known in the fashion industry.
