Girl Scouts To Offer Gluten-Free Option
Individuals that have tried the cookie, find no difference between the traditional Girl Scout cookie and the gluten-free one. In other words, the wheat used in most Girl Scout cookies and the mixture of tapioca and rice in the gluten-free one is not detectable. The cookies are made by ABC Bakers, and on its website ABC Bakers states, "[the sweet treat] contains no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, no high fructose corn syrup, no palm oil, and no hydrogenated oil. They are made with real chocolate chips and real butter causing their calories to be 130 calories per four."
However, not all Girl Scout councils are offering these yummy snacks; only 20 Girl Scout councils will be participating in the release of these cookies. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Girl Scout council will not be selling these cookies, but don't fret just yet because the Orange County Girl Scout council will be.
Every year Girl Scouts release a new cookie. Besides the gluten-free chocolate chip shortbread, Girl Scouts will also be selling a cranberry citrus cookie. This cookie is not particular to any council; so unlike the gluten-free ones, it will be sold everywhere.
Although these cookies will not be sold in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Girl Scout council does have opportunities for support. They have a program called the Gift of Caring Program that sends cookies to soldiers and other nonprofit organizations like L.A. Food Bank and Goodwill Southern California.
The National Girl Scout Cookie program has already begun. Booth selling will start on Feb. 7, with the exception of Orange County that will start on Feb. 16. Girl Scout cookies will be sold until March 16.
