Emails and text messages released Wednesday suggest a top aide to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was involved in closing lanes of the George Washington Bridge in September to hinder traffic to a town whose mayor did not support Christie's reelection campaign.

"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," wrote Bridget Anne Kelly, a deputy chief of staff to Christie. The email was sent in August to David Wildstein, Christie's appointee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, supposedly after Fort Lee's mayor, Democrat Mark Sokolich, did not support Christie's reelection bid.

Christie denied he was involved in the scandal — dubbed "Bridge-gate" — saying the lane closures were part of a traffic study.

Wildstein resigned from the Port Authority in December. The emails emerged as part of a subpeona for a hearing in which Wildstein will testify in front of state lawmakers.
