Big Gay Ice Cream Shop Comes To L.A.

Although there is a great amount of buzz about the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop coming to L.A., this is not the first appearance of the soft serve ice cream in L.A. The Big Ice Cream Truck made stops in L.A. during the fall of 2012 and summer of 2013. After such success, the owners are bringing their soft serve creations to Angelinos in Downtown L.A. at 9th Street and Broadway, which is the former location of Anson’s Eatery, according to the Los Angeles Times. At a total of 1,500 square feet, the L.A. shop will be the biggest Big Gay Ice Cream shop yet.
Big Gay Ice Cream initially began as an experiment by the owners, Douglas Quint and Bryan Peroff, who started the business as the Big Gay Ice Cream Food Truck in New York City during the summer of 2009, according the Big Gay Ice Cream website. The owners primarily used Twitter to promote themselves, which in turn helped them reach the success they have today, Business News Daily reported in Jan. 2011. Currently, the Big Gay Ice Cream Twitter account has nearly 55,000 followers.

Big Gay Ice Cream offers a variety of unique menu items, including the "Salty Pimp," "Bea Arthur," "Cococone," "Gobbler," "Mermaid," "Mexican Affo’gay’to", "Monday Sundae," "American Globs" and more.
