Keep your enemies close, and your passwords closer.

There's nothing worse than finding out someone hacked into your account and posted all types of embarassing statuses -- but in the age of the Internet, a simple account hacking could lead to much more serious implications: data breaches, fraudulent expenditures, you name it.

The first step to avoiding such a disaster? Stop with the ridiculous passwords.

Here is a list of SplashData's "Worst Passwords" of 2013:

  1. 123456
  2. password
  3. 12345678
  4. qwerty
  5. abc123
  6. 1234567890
  7. 111111
  8. 1234567
  9. iloveyou
  10. adobe123

The list goes on to later name words such as "admin," "shadow", "sunshine" and "princess". This is the first year that "password" hasn't taken the throne as the absolute worst password.

But we're pretty willing to bet that using it is still no better of an idea now than it was last year.
