Just like in federal elections, big business has been writing big checks to campaigns across the country.

The financial corporations are the biggest campaign contributors in California, while majority of the other states' campaigns are funded by the energy and health companies.

Using data from www.followmoney.org, Mother Jones mapped which industries gave the most to state-level campaign donors for the 2012 election.

The below chart shows which industry topped the list of campaign contributions in the last election cycle.
