New York Train Derails, Youtube

Several cars on the Metro-North trail derailed off the track at 7:20 a.m just 100 yards from the Dupvil station in the Bronx, said Aaron Donovan, spokesman for Metro North.

According to Reuters, a city fire department spokesman said 11 of the 63 injured were in critical condition, six were in serious condition and 46 others had minor injuries. The train was only half full when the train crashed, carrying about 150 passengers.

One of the rail cars tipped over near the edge of a nearby river causing rescue workers to scan the shoreline for survivors. New York Police Department divers dove in water as dozens of firefighters pulled passengers from the wrecked cards.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement after touring the scene. "We think everybody is accounted for, we've gone over the site a number of times," Cuomo said.

It is unknown whether the accident will impact Monday commuters. In July, 10 cars carrying trashed crashed in the same area, delaying service for more than a week.

An investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched.
