Chicken and waffles. If you never heard of this combo before, it could strike you as a little gross … or gloriously appetizing.

This savory-and-sweet duo can be served in a variety of ways. There are many ways waffles can be prepared—Belgian, thin, crispy, soft, billowy—and many parts of the chicken that can be served (leg, thigh, breast, etc.). With sauces and sides—gravy, butter, syrup—in addition to that, each chicken and waffle dish has a flair of its own.

Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles made the duo famous, but where are some other places you can find this complementary combo? The next time you are looking to satisfy your chicken-and-waffle craving, check out these eateries

THE TASTING KITCHEN

The Tasting Kitchen serves up quite a rendition of chicken and waffles — instead of simply layering the two components on top of each other, or serving them side-by-side, sausage or bacon is stuffed inside the sweet waffle (at an additional charge; plain waffles are available as well). The “sweet” waffles and its counterpart, the “savory” option—served with chicken and the option to have waffles stuffed with bacon or sausage—are only available on the Venice-based eatery’s brunch menu and tend to be hot sellers.

IHOP

Chicken and Waffles” are even available at everyone’s favorite International House of Pancakes. This dish contains four pieces of all-white, golden, chicken strips that’s crispy and breaded and is served with four waffle quarters topped with whipped butter.

STEAMPUNK COFFEEBAR + KITCHEN

The “Chicken & Waffle Stack” at SteamPunk Coffeebar + Kitchen is considered the eatery’s “house special.” For $10, customers will get a towering stack comprising buttermilk fried chicken, applewood smoked bacon, cayenne maple aioli and a fried egg sandwiched between freshly baked Belgian waffles. The stack and its components give the traditional dish a twist in terms of presentation and ingredients.

BRUXIE

Bruxie is known for its delicious waffle sandwiches, but “Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Waffle” is a staple on its menu. This savory dish is served with cider slaw and chili honey, adding to the sweet-and-savory mix.

PANN’S

Yelpers rate this retro diner as No. 1 for chicken and waffles. “Pann’s Belgian Waffle & Wings” is considered the eatery’s house specialty, as it comes with the diner’s choice of four or six wings, served with a Belgian waffle covered in melted butter and hot syrup.

THE SERVING SPOON

At this urban eatery, customers will not only find chicken and waffles, but ham and waffles, bacon and waffles, or chicken and pancakes … the number of combos are endless. While “Cookie’s Wings & Waffle” comes with a waffle and five fried chicken wings, “Silas’ Combo” comes with one waffle, wings and two eggs. If you prefer a different type of meat, “Rambo’s Waffle Combo” comes with a waffle and the diner’s choice of bacon, sausage or ham, served alongside his choice of two eggs, grits, rice or potatoes. And for the French Toast lovers out there, the “Hernandez Special” presents the best of both worlds — chicken wing drummettes accompany the classic breakfast starch.

THE WAFFLE HOLLYWOOD

The “Cornmeal Jalapeno Waffle” can be misleading if you just look at the dish’s title. This delectable breakfast dish served at The Waffle Hollywood comprises a waffle served with a fried, boneless chicken breast, brown or sawmill gravy and old-school greens (with bacon). Sweet waffle combos are abundant on this eatery’s menu, but if you love savory-and-sweet combos, “Cornmeal Jalapeno” is the way to go.

BRITE SPOT

With an extensive variety of house specials—“Sloppy Tofu Hash,” “Classic Eggs Benedict” and “Burger for Breakfast” among them—“Chicken and Waffles” can be found in the “Griddle” section of the breakfast menu at Brite Spot, a diner located on Sunset Boulevard. A freshly made Belgian waffle is served with both white and dark meat chicken and the combo is covered with syrup, butter and powdered sugar. Even though chicken-and-waffle fanatics will love this dish, there are many other tantalizing entrees on the menu—like the made-from-scratch “Chocolate Belgian Waffle” and “Caramelized Onion Omelet”—that may call your name instead.

BRU’S WIFFLE: A WAFFLE JOINT

Chicken and waffles has its own category on the menu at Bru’s Wiffle: A Waffle Joint. The possibilities are endless at the Santa Monica-based eatery: “Golden Chicken” features a waffle served with goat cheese and honey, “Dwight’s Special” contains a Belgian waffle topped with two pieces of skinless, crispy, boneless chicken, and “Festive Chicken” is served with mango sauce and mango pico de gallo. There’s even a gluten-free option: that’s right, gluten-free waffle and gluten-free crispy chicken.

ROSCOE’S HOUSE OF CHICKEN AND WAFFLES

Of course, you can’t really make a listicle about chicken and waffles without including Roscoe’s. Chicken and waffle combos—all with unique names, ranging from “Country Boy” (also affectionately known as “The Obama Special”) to “Herb’s Special”—are a staple on the Roscoe’s menu. Waffle-chicken-and-omelet combos are available as well.
