East-coast friends envy the year-round sunshine of L.A., but recently it's been feeling much more chilly than SoCal sunny these days. Adorned in pea coats and scarves, Angelenos are looking for additional ways to get cozy and/or embrace the winter season. If that vibe sounds appealing, check out these spots to get into the spirit.

And if all else fails, just make snow angels in the sand.

Café Demitasse

This Little Tokyo coffee shop puts a twist on a cold-weather classic: lavender hot chocolate, complete with a marshmallow torched right in front of you.

Voda Spa

With its saunas and steam rooms, you can pretend you’re seeking refuge from the snow in Moscow at this Russian spa. The adventurous brave the traditional platza treatment, in which bundles of leafy oak are dragged across the body to improve circulation ($25). The rest relax with a hot stone massage ($190) with lava stones from the Black Sea.

This beloved winter pastime is not just for kids, adults can lace up at the Moonlight Skating event on Saturdays from 11 p.m.-1 a.m. And students enjoy a discount at college night on Thursday from 8-10 p.m. For a holiday atmosphere, the outdoor rink in downtown Los Angeles is open for until January 14.

4545 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230, (310) 398-5718

The Wellesbourne

Though you may need sunglasses outside, you can curl up by the fireplace with one of the many leather-bound books lining the walls at this English lounge. Or simply kick back and enjoy a cocktail like a gimlet or an old-fashioned.

10929 West Pico Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90064, (310) 474-0102

Knit Culture Studio

Soft yarn in every color may make you want to knit a scarf for yourself or a friend.

Lined in rainbow hues of soft yarn, Knit Culture Studio is a yarn shop and artist space in West Hollywood. The studio offers classes, knitting parties and supplies for knitters and crocheters alike. Classes are offered for $250 (3 Saturday sessions).

Afraid you’ll mess up? No pressure. This cold front is temporary- scarves are optional in L.A.
