Many have said that the music today is not what it used to be, specifically in the hip-hop and pop genres. The once meaningful lyrics and intricate makeup of the music behind those lyrics have been washed out to mediocre words, and simple beats that somehow manage in our heads for hours at a time.  Many artists have been accused of “selling out” to the industry because the quality of the music they had while under the radar decreased as they made their way up the ladder. Although some artists have submitted to the producing machine by changing their styles, Conner Stark had a different plan in mind.

As fresh face to the music industry, Stark has made it his mission to attain success without altering his image. So far, that mission is off to a great start.

At just 18 years old Stark’s music was selected to back multiple show’s during New York Fashion Week in 2010. Just a year later Stark was invited to attend the 53rd annual Grammy Awards. This year Stark signed with NBCUniversal to write music for television networks like E! News, Style (now the Esquire Network) and his song “Super Cali” was selected as theme music for the TV show “Style Pop." Throughout his accomplishments,  Stark has managed to stay true to his style and not change his image. By keeping his unique blend of electro pop, hip-hop, and even some Broadway musical influence in his music Stark has been very busy playing shows all over the LA area.

Stark preformed Wednesday night at Micky’s in West Hollywood to promote his new single “Super Cali."

When the music started, Stark came onto the stage grabbing the audience’s attention with a high energy opener. Mid routine Stark pulled a girl on stage from the crowd who happened to be a dancer and kicked the performance in to high gear.

Conner Stark fans were ecstatic when the familiar tune Super Cali started to play. The intimate setting of the venue gave the audience a chance to get up close and personal with Stark. The set was a quick one leaving the audience wanting more. But even better than an encore, not too long after the performance, Stark came out to chat and dance with the fans on the dance floor.

“This performance was one of the best that I have seen at Mickey’s. Get used to the name Conner Stark…he definitely has potential to make it big in the music industry” said Huy Lu, one of the audience members.

In addition to talking to the audience, Stark gave Neon Tommy an inside look into the inspiration behind his newest single, “Super Cali." Check out the Neon Tommy exclusive interview below.
