Virginia Senator In Critical Condition Following Stabbing
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, police responded around 7:25am Tuesday morning to Deed's rural Millboro, Virgina home and found Deed's son dead from a gunshot wound.
Police are still investigating the incident and have not released any suspects or motives. A news conference was scheduled for 12:00PM ET.
Deeds has since been flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, approximately 70 miles away.
Deeds unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2009, losing to now-Governor Bob McDonnell. In a statement, McDonnell expressed his sympathies, saying that "Creigh Deeds is an exceptional and committed public servant who has always done what he believes is best for Virginia and who gives his all to public service."
"He cares deeply about Virginia, and the people of Virginia care deeply for him."
