U.S. Flies B-52 Planes Over China's Air Defense Zone
The B-52s were not armed and on a training mission that began Monday from Guam. Although the mission lasted for several hours it was only an hour that they spend within China's air zone.
Although CNN states the official declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the situation, China expressed that a key problem occured when the pilots didn't identify themselves upon entering the airspace.
The flights came only two days after China unilaterally announced the development of the "Air Defense Identification Zone" over multiple islands it has claimed along with Japan.
According to CNN the United States has said that it will not recognize the air zone, however, China's U.N. Ambassador Liu Jieyi said Tuesday,
"It's natural, it's indeed the right of every country to defend its airspace and also to make sure that its territorial integrity, its sovereignty are safeguarded,"
There is no word on how the defense zone will be safeguarded in the near future.
