Bayern Munchen and Manchester City picked up big wins on tuesday, becoming the first two teams to qualify for the round of 16 of the champions league.

Two 0-0 games in Group A kept Manchester United on top of the group, despite a disappointing performance against a Real Sociedad side who hadn't won a game in this tournament yet. Leverkusen remain in second place after being held scoreless against Shaktar Donetsk, a side who sit two points behind Leverkusen.

Real Madrid played a high-tempo game in Italy against European giants Juventus. Madrid trailed 1-0 after Vidal capitalized on a questionable penalty call in the 42nd minute. Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale would score second half goals to put the Spanish side ahead. Ronaldo's eighth goal in the group stage this season ties the group stage record shared by Rudd van Nistelrooy, Hernan Crespo, and Fiippo Inzaghi. Fernando Llorente would equalize for Juventus in the 65th to keep the Italian side alive in the group. FC Kobenhaven beat Galatasaray 1-0, keeping both teams a point ahead of Juventus and six behind group leader Madrid. Madrid has mathematically not qualified for the round of 16 yet.

Relying on Zlatan Ibrahimovic to continue his goal scoring streak, PSG was only able to draw 1-1 against Anderlecht and is still waiting for a confirmed Round of 16 berth. With the Olympaicos win over Benfica 1-0, group C now has PSG on top, with Olympiacos, Benfica and Anderlecht all behind by three point intervals.

Mario Mandzukic, of Bayern, found the back of the net in the 65th, capitalizing on a header created by  his often perfect execution of the traditional poacher role. The 1-0 win was Bayern's ninth straight win in Champions League play, equaling Barcelona's record set in 2002-2003. Also in Group D, Manchester City 5-2 victory over CSKA Moskva meant that the English side will advance out of the group with Bayern as well, making up for their poor performance in the group stage last year.

Group play continues Wednesday with groups E-H.
