Starbucks Pledges To Hire 10,000 Veterans
According to the Los Angeles Times, the initiative was organized by former Defense Secretary and Starbucks board member, Robert Gates.
The company is not looking to provide charity to our nation's heros. Starbucks Chief Community Officer Blair Taylor explained, "This is an endeavor predicated on us genuinely needing the skills veterans offer."
Along with staffing their locations with veterans, Starbucks plans to open five so-called community stores at military bases over the next five years.
And in lieu of Veteran's Day coming up, here is a list of other companies that are working to honor and support their local heroes.
1. JPMorgan Chase is dedicated to military recruiting and internal military training. According to an NBC report, this program has created more than 5,300 jobs for veterans in two years.
2. Cornell University provides private professional counseling for veterans who are both employees and members of their local community. They also have extensive support services for military families.
3. Verizon Communications is dedicated to assisting military spouses with finding work. They also provide benefits for employees on active duty for an additional year beyond the provisions of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
4. WalMart, like Starbucks, has made a similar pledge to hire 100,000 veterans by 2018.
5. Walt Disney Co. was one of eight honorable mentions recognized by the Families and Work Institute for its initiative to hire and support veterans.
