Shane West Cast In New TV Series
West is set to play the lead in WGN America’s first scripted series “Salem.”
The 13-episode series will look into what lead to the infamous Salem witch trials in 17th century Massachusetts. It will focus primarily on an epic romance in the midst of newly uncovered truths about witches. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series promises “a bold new vision of Salem –and an even bolder new vision of witches.”
The Fox 21 drama was created and written by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, who will also produce the series alongside Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinetz.
West’s character, John Alden, described as being "handsome, tough, pragmatic, [and] wry-humored,” returns to his home in Salem after 10 years of war and captivity by the Indians to find that his town is caught up in a hunt for witches.
Other notable castings include Janet Montgomery (“Made in Jersey”), who will play Mary Sibley, the beautiful, but evil wife of town Selectmen George Sibley. She also shares an interesting past with West’s character.
Tamzin Merchant (“The Tudors”) was cast as Anne Hale, a beautiful artist who shows an interest in West’s character and finds an enemy in Montgomery’s character.
For those who don’t watch “Nikita,” you might remember West from the 2002 film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “A Walk to Remember.” West played Landon Carter opposite of Mandy Moore in the teen romantic drama.
The final season of “Nikita” premieres on Nov. 22 on the CW.
