After two weeks, 'Modern Family' returns with one of the funniest episodes yet.

The fair comes to town and everyone is in attendance, from the football team Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) manages, to the Dunphy's family pharmacist.

The day of festivities starts off a bit nerve racking for Phil and Claire Dunphy (Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen) as the couple celebrates their 20th anniversary. Each partner struggles to execute their elaborate gift ideas because Claire's surprise is at the house, while Phil's gift is at the fair.

The couple ends up simultaneously working against each other to deliver their gifts; Claire tries to casually coerce Phil to leave the fair, while Phil uses diversions to keep Claire at the fair.

However, after a day of mishaps that include Claire landing in mock jail, she decides to give in and stay at the fair. But in a turn of events, Phil ends up begging her to leave when his gift idea doesn't go as planned.

When the couple gets home, Claire presents her surprise; a group of Chinese acrobats performing on the lawn! Phil loves the gift, and the couple watch the dancers together in awe.

Cameron and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) weren't so lucky. The couple wasn't able to spend any time at the fair together because Cameron had to watch over the middle school football team he manages.

Cameron attempted to teach his players a moral lesson by bringing them together to play the carnival game in which a person uses a mallet to hit a target as hard as s/he can. Cameron uses the mallet to symbolize the strength of the team, but his point is deemed null by the children because according to the game, Cameron isn't very strong. The flamboyant coach continues to get feedback like "Girly Man" or "Sissy Grandma" from the game, which prompts him to repeatedly smash the target for a better result.

After Cameron finally stops attacking the target with the mallet, he vents to Mitchell about his desire to find new talent that could put charisma back into the team. At this exact moment, Manny (Rico Rodriguez) pushes through the crowd to get to his competition, and Cameron recognizes a raw talent in Manny that he has never seen before. Cameron immediately adds the young boy to his team.

Manny is happy to join the football team, but not as happy as he is to participate in the baking contest. Manny and his parents arrive at the fair with a huge cake in tow that Manny has baked and decorated himself. Jay (Ed O'Neil)  teases Manny for participating in such a feminine activity, but it doesn't bother the confident young chef.

However, when Jay leaves, it begins to bother Gloria (Sofia Vergara) because she thinks Manny may be an outcast since he doesn't participate in any "manly" activities. In order to get Manny to play with the other boys, Gloria destroys his cake, but it only makes Manny more motivated to win the competition.

When Gloria sees Manny's determination, she comes clean about what she's done and helps Manny reenter, and win the bake-off!

Meanwhile, Jay is volunteering as the cop on duty at the fair. Jay is paired up with Derrick (guest star Jordan Peele), a man he only knows becuase the two men fought over a prime parking spot just ten minutes prior to being officially introduced. Jay is not looking forward to spending the day in such close quarters with the Derrick, but after a few ice creams and arrests, the two build a friendship as police partners.

Somewhere else on the fair grounds, Alex (Ariel Winters) tries her hardest to become friends with a popular new girl at school, but is thwarted by Luke's (Nolan Gould) plans to date the girl. The Dunphy siblings try everything in their power to seem "cool" in order to impress their possible new friend, but just end up comedically embarrassing each other. Afterwards, the girl decides not to befriend either of them.

At the Delgado-Pritchett household, Haley (Sarah Hyland) tries her hardest not to befriend the male nanny, Andy (Adam DeVine.) When Haley comes over unannounced and plans to lay out by the pool with a beer, Andy does everything in his power to stop her, because he knows she doesn't have permission to be in the house, or to drink.

Regardless of Andy's requests, Haley continues to do whatever she wants, leaving the male nanny to clean up behind her as she breaks two beers and makes fun of Andy's "imaginary" girlfriend. The two spend all day together, but still manage to disagree on everything, resulting in several snarky and witty comments from both of the teens.

While they may not have enjoyed each others' company, it was definitely fun to watch their interactions. Hopefully we'll see more of this dysfunctional pair together in the future!
