From teddy bears and twerking, to sitting naked on a wrecking ball, there is a method to the Miley Cyrus madness. In an interview with BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, Cyrus dubbed herself “one of the biggest feminists in the world.”

“I tell women not to be scared of anything,” said Cyrus, adding that women are beautiful and shouldn’t be shamed for wanting to be naked.

“For me, it's not even that I'm a feminist. I'm for anybody. I'm for everybody, for everything. I don't care what you wanna do in your life, or who you wanna be with, who you wanna love, who you wanna look like.”

Cyrus said that her outfits and dancing are part of an onstage persona that doesn’t fully reflect who she is, adding that her eccentric onstage behavior is justifiable by her music.

“If you have good songs I think you can wear anything or do anything, just be able to back it up by what you're doing,” said Cyrus.

Cyrus also told the radio station that she continuously tries to spin her criticism in a positive way, saying that it brings more attention to her music.  Her newest album, “Bangerz,” was released last month and is number one in the US and the UK.

Among Cyrus’ biggest critics is singer Sinead O’Connor.

Following the infamous VMA performance in August, during which Cyrus twerked on Robin Thicke in a nude two-piece outfit, O’Connor wrote a series of open letters to Cyrus, criticizing her behavior. Cyrus’ response, which included remarks about O’Connor’s past issues with mental illness, started a very public feud between the two singers.

O’Connor recently told Time that she doesn’t regret the argument with Cyrus.

“I think the two of us, without meaning to, did quite a good job in terms of creating conversation about something really, really important,” said O’Connor.
