Every other week, Editor Mara Hyman takes a look at the buzzworthy short films coming from the music video universe. Here are her latest picks:

Demi Lovato - "Neon Lights"

The singer and "X Factor" judge is back with a new single that's pretty different from her previous songs. This time, she brings us her most clubby dance song yet. It's very catchy and allows Demi to show off her lower register. It's very repetitive, in fact the first and second verses are the same, but her voice is so powerful that it almost doesn't matter.

The video is also very different for Demi, showing off her more sensual side. We see her shoulders-up in a pool of water, dancing against a wall, and surrounding by lots of backup dancers at a club set-up. To fit with the theme, she dons neon makeup and nails, and she is constantly surrounded by bright white lights to contrast the dark setting. Do you think Demi should make more club hits or do you prefer her ballads like "Skyscraper?"

A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera - "Say Something"

A Great Big World, consisting of lead singer Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino, has been fairly unknown besides their brief fame from a "Glee" cover of their song "This Is The New Year," but now they have been officially thrust to center stage with this latest song. "Say Something" is the type of song that comes along every once in awhile that makes you stop whatever you're doing and listen - it's that good. It is beautifully written and stripped down to a piano and vocal at the beginning with violins that gradually come in. Oddly enough there's an original version of the song with just Ian's voice, but his duet with the great Christina Aguilera is what's given the group so much recent success. They performed the song together on "The Voice" which is what attracted so many new fans to them. Christina is also a huge stand-out because typically she overpowers whoever she duets with with crazy runs, but this time she surprisingly shows so much restraint which is beautiful and only a testament to her talent.

The video is truly heartbreaking, encapsulating three different stories in three different beds: a girl hiding herself from the world, a girl about to break up with her boyfriend, and an old man hugging his wife on a hospital bed who is about to die. We see Ian at a grand piano with Christina and feel their emotion pouring out. The only negative thing about the video is that since Chad doesn't sing on this song, he simply stands by the piano. Are you in love with this song?

Katy Perry - "Unconditionally"

Coming off of the huge success of "Roar," Katy Perry is back with a power ballad. You can tell this is yet another song she struggles with live because of the intense chorus and high notes, but at least on the recording she sounds great. The song is about unconditional love - possibly for John Mayer? The harsh contrast between a powerful chorus and verses that require more restraint seem to fit her voice pretty well.

The video seems to have less of a direct storyline than her more obvious past videos, but rather focuses on pretty shots. In between shots of Katy standing with snow falling down, it cuts to Renaissance-type dancers in full attire. One pivotal moment in the video shows Katy being hit by a car out of nowhere, editing down to extreme slow-mo where the shards of glass almost seem to explode in the air. There are also shots of people under water and of Katy with flowers flying behind her. All in all the video seems a bit random and chaotic, but we get to see a more vulnerable and raw side of Katy similar to that in her "Wide Awake" video. Do you think Katy is growing musically or does she still need improvement?

Jessie J - "Thunder"

The third single released from Jessie's sophomore album "Alive," "Thunder" is fierce and shows a lot of emotion while being a bit dancy at the same time. Jessie sings in the stratosphere on the chorus like with many of her newer songs, which is incredible, however it would be refreshing to see more range in lower octaves.

The video is pretty basic, however Jessie doesn't need much background distraction because of her amazing voice. It is set in the desert at night as the lights of a big black car illuminate the scene (anyone else immediately think of Carrie Underwood's "Two Black Cadillacs" video?). She stands in the middle in a black and nude bodysuit with a fancy black cape as she waves it around during the entire video. Jessie shows her anger and emotion as she kicks up some dust with huge bolts of lightning flashing above her. Aesthetically it has a bit of a gothic feel with her vampy lips, black nails and black outfit. While it's slightly repetitive in parts, her voice completely takes over which is ultimately what matters. Are you a Jessie J fan?

Phillip Phillips - "Where We Came From"

Best known for winning "American Idol" two seasons ago, Phillip is back with an authentic new single. Likely trying to escape one-hit-wonder status (with his song "Home" and his lesser but still successful single "Gone Gone Gone"), he comes back with his classic "Mumford and Sons" alternative style. The song has very intricate lyrics and a strong focus on raw instruments. While it sounds more like another song he'd sing at his concerts and less of a third epic hit, he seems to have fun with it.

The video fits his laid-back vibe, cutting between scenes jamming at a concert and him singing alongside his band surrounded by nature. It sounds like he's singing the entire song live in the video, which is great because it shows how talented and Autotube-free he is. The video unfortunately only has about 36,000 views on YouTube so far, which isn't a good sign, but it seems like he has enough of an established fanbase. He really feeds off of the crowd in the audience and acts like a true musician who values his craft. Have you been following Phillip Phillips post-"American Idol?"
