A blast of winter weather caused eight deaths as it continues to head southeast.

A National Weather Service meteorologist called the storm a “Nordic outbreak,” and estimates that it will affect most of the U.S., just in time for Thanksgiving.

White-out conditions were responsible for two deadly car crashes. In New Mexico, a four-year-old girl was killed in a rollover accident due to five inches of snow.  And in the Texas Panhandle, three people died in a crash involving a dozen cars.

In California, authorities found one body near downed power lines, one man died hitting a tree with his car and another woman was killed by a tree hitting her parked car.

From late Tuesday to Wednesday, airplane delays are expected from Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York and Boston
